Aerating a lawn is an important part of keeping it green and healthy. A lot of experts say that aeration once a year would be a good thing. The aeration process is needed because when the soil becomes too compacted, water and fertilizer will have trouble going down to where the roots of the grass are located. If the yard is neglected and this was to happen, the grass will be unhealthy and turn yellow or brown. It would develop bare patches and would be prone to disease or pests. Ignoring the issue won’t solve anything. No matter how much watering or mowing you’d do, it won’t help if the nutrients don’t get to reach your grass.
